The sixth single from Malou Beauvoir’s « SPIRITWALKER » album,
PAPA DAMBALLAH speaks to one of the most ancient and revered spirits in Haitian Vaudou. Creator of all life, Papa Damballah, the great white snake, represents wisdom, morality, creation, and equity .
The song recalls we are all his children and asks for his protection and guidance in situations of injustice. Beauvoir’s personal relationship with this spirit is emphasized during the spoken word passage when she « thanks him and the spirits that guide her everyday of her life for their support ».
Originally recorded for her IS THIS LOVE album, the song appears on the SPIRITWALKER album as the closing song and was chosen as the end credit song in Suzan Beraza’s film « MASSACRE RIVER: The Woman Without a Country » which aired on PBS over 1500 times since Oct 1 2019 opening doors for awareness of the plight of Haitians in the Dominican Republic since the laws changed in 2013.

In Haiti, police say they have arrested one of the masterminds behind the assassination of president Jovenel Moise. Moise was gunned down at his home last week. Officials suspect that the arrested man wanted to oust the president and take over himself as head of the country.
Police have identified the suspect as a Haitian national. Other reports say the man was US resident.
Police had already arrested a number of Haitians and Columbians suspected of being part of the assassination unit responsible for last week’s killing of President Jovenel Moise. But many questions remain.
A team of US agents arrived in Haiti on Sunday, meeting with central members of Haiti's government.
Church leaders on Sunday asked for calm and told people to remain strong.
Moise’s assassination has created a power vacuum and confusion over who is Haiti’s legitimate leader.
Haiti was in bad shape before the president’s assassination. It’s plagued by gang violence and corruption. And Haitians live in crushing poverty.
Quiet streets in the capital Port au Prince on Sunday mark a contrast to the ongoing political turmoil.

U.S. Coast Guard Has Stopped More Than 5,000 Haitians At Sea

The United Nations human rights office has expressed concern about rising violence around Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, saying 99 people have been reported killed in recent fighting between rival gangs in the Cite Soleil district alone.
The warning on Saturday came hours after the UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution renewing the mandate of a UN office in the Caribbean nation and calling on all countries to stop the transfer of small arms, light weapons and ammunition to anyone there supporting gang violence and criminal activity.
UN humanitarian agencies said they were ready to help embattled communities once it is safe to do so.

Louis-Henri Mars is the head of Lakou Lapee, a peacebuilding organisation that runs community projects for young Haitians.
