A fun dance workout using beautiful tunes from Haiti. Be sure to drink water.

On 11/17/21 Imamou Lele was invited to Queensborough Community College to facilitate a workshop for QCC Dance Department educator Kevin McEwen’s students. Alexandra Jean-Joseph led with basic movements of the traditional Haitian dance styles of Yanvalou, dance of supplication, Nago, dance of war, and Ibo, the dance of liberation. Sky Menesky, along with Michael Adams and Atibon demonstrated traditional percussion rhythms and taught the students a traditional Ibo Song.

Get ready for traditional Haitian dance with Maxine Montilus! In this series, students will learn dances from the Haitian Folkloric tradition as well as learn steps from the dances of Ibo, Nago, Yanvalou and Kongo. You will also be provided with information on the historical and cultural background of the dances shown in the videos. Come, move and groove & learn about this gem of African Diaspora movement.

TLC has been successful in reaching over 4,800 students, and 140 teachers in NYC each year by developing performance, language, visual, and/or digital media skills and contextualizing the students’ classroom experience into a broader history that incorporates vibrant cultures reflective of our diverse global community.
