Across the water, the French National Assembly debate a new document, drafted by Marquis de Lafayette, The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Little do they know that this document will ignite the fuse leading to the powder keg in Saint-Domingue. Hold on to your fancy Revolutionary hats because things are going to get absolutely buck wild. Alliances will be formed and break within weeks, laws will last about the same time, and while all this chaos is happening, a revolt is forming.

The American Revolution did more for the world than to cement the independence of 13 British colonies in North America from their mother country. The ideals and freedoms fought for by the founders of the United States spread throughout the wider Atlantic World and the world, spawning numerous other "revolutions," including the Haitian Revolution that began in 1791. Join Professor Bob Allison (Chair, Suffolk University Department of History, Language and Global Culture) in conversation with Professor Ashli White of the University of Miami, author of "Encountering Revolution; Haiti and the Making of the Early Republic."

Heroines of the Haitian Revolution: Tales of Victory and Valour recounts the stories of African women who played significant roles during the Haitian Revolution. The book sets the scene by providing a brief overview of the early history of the island of Haiti and the political, social and economic climate in which the Haitian Revolution began. It goes on to highlight the roles played by women such as Cécile Fatiman, the voodoo priestess who features prominently in the Caiman Woods ceremony at the start of the revolution; Marie-Jeanne Lamartiniére, who fought at the famous battle of Crête-à-Pierrot in March 1802 and Sanité Bélair, a sergeant in Toussaint L’Ouverture, revolutionary army. This book highlights the active involvement of nine courageous women and although little is known about their backgrounds, their stories and contribution takes the form of a narrative set in the context of historical events taking place at the time. It also summarises the role of African women generally during the revolution, but most importantly sheds light on these largely forgotten women and their significant contribution to creating Haiti in 1804 – the first Black independent republic in the New World.

The Haitian Revolution is one of the most important in history of mankind because it was the first and the only successful movement against slavery in the 18th centuries. The Revolution started on August 14th, 1791 even though many slaves had already started to escape since 1789.

Heyyy welcome back to my channel. I'm taking my channel in a completely different direction. I want to start posting content that I care about and what makes me excited about filming. I know some of you want to see more hair videos but that's not where I am anymore. Im going to start filming fashion hauls, look books etc, makeup story time situations (don't know what to call it yet) and hair updates here and there.
I did forget to mention the most important part Haiti proclaimed their indolence day on January 1, 1804. I didn't want to get to in-depth with everything because then the video would be a lot longer.

Haitian Revolution
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Haitian Revolution (French: Révolution haïtienne [ʁevɔlysjɔ̃ ajisjɛ̃n]) was a successful anti-slavery and anti-colonial insurrection by self-liberated slaves against French colonial rule in Saint-Domingue, now the sovereign nation of Haiti. It began on 22 August 1791, and ended in 1804 with the former colony's independence. It involved blacks, mulattoes, French, Spanish, and British participants—with the ex-slave Toussaint L'Ouverture emerging as Haiti's most charismatic hero. It was the only slave uprising that led to the founding of a state which was both free from slavery, and ruled by non-whites and former captives. It is now widely seen as a defining moment in the history of racism in the Atlantic World.Its effects on the institution of slavery were felt throughout the Americas. The end of French rule and the abolition of slavery in the former colony was followed by a successful defense of the freedoms they won, and, with the collaboration of free persons of color, their independence from white Europeans. It represents the largest slave uprising since Spartacus's unsuccessful revolt against the Roman Republic nearly 1,900 years earlier. It challenged long-held European beliefs about alleged black inferiority and about enslaved persons' capacity to achieve and maintain their own freedom. The rebels' organizational capacity and tenacity under pressure inspired stories that shocked and frightened slave owners in the hemisphere.
